Opioid crisis spending sluggish in Indiana

INDIANA (WOWO): An Associated Press analysis of the first wave of emergency money from Congress targeting the U.S. opioid crisis finds that states are taking very different approaches to spending it.

To a large extent, the differences depend on whether states participated in “Obamacare.” States that expanded Medicaid reported spending their allocations more slowly than states that didn’t expand it.

The Journal Gazette reports that Indiana spent only 25% of a $10.9-million federal grant given to deal with the crisis.

The Park Center in Fort Wayne has also received only 24% of almost $733,000 promised for opioid treatment services.

The Associated Press contributed to part of this report.
