Red Cross in “emergency need” for blood donors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): This week’s cold temperatures have done a number on local blood supplies.

Katherine McAulay of the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana tells WOWO News it’s tough to get people to donate when it’s cold, and they had already struggled during the holiday season:

“Just in the last few days we’ve canceled in our territory 22 bloodmobile events, and we’ve lost 800 units (of blood),” she says.

The American Red Cross says there’s an “emergency need” for all donor types.

You can donate in Fort Wayne at either the Red Cross offices on East California Rd. or at the Lutheran Hospital donation center on West Jefferson Blvd. Learn more at RedCrossBlood.org.
