ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded a big grant to Allen County’s plans for rebuilding and upgrading part of the Fogwell Parkway.

INDOT officials have informed the county that a $6.5-million federal grant has been awarded for the project that calls for reconstructing the section of four-lane road from Lafayette Center Road to Winters Road, with new pavement underdrains, curbs, and gutters, as well as upgraded signage and guardrails.

That stretch of road is used heavily by several companies, including the nearby GM assembly plant.

“It is great to see that both the state and federal governments through this award are recognizing the economic impact that improving our roads within this corridor is continuing to have in southwest Allen County and the rest of the northeast Indiana region,” said Commissioner Nelson Peters.

“The Board of Commissioners and the Highway Department are committed to providing and maintaining a safe, efficient and serviceable roadway system for the residents and businesses of Allen County,” added Bill Hartman, Highway Department director. “The work proposed in our application is consistent with the county’s overall strategy toward that end.”

The total project cost is estimated at $8.9-million, with construction bids sought in late 2023.
