INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO) – Governor Eric Holcomb announced that the state has received 82 applications requesting grants for the first round of the Next Level Trails grant program totaling nearly $144 million.
According to the Journal Gazette, the requests total over 240 miles of potential hiking, biking and riding trails.
The Next Level Trails grant program is a part of Next Level Connections which is Governor Holcomb’s statewide infrastructure program. The grants will be awarded in rounds. The first round allows up to $20 million for regional projects and up to $5 million for local projects.
The total allotment of funds is $90 million with $70 million for regional projects and $20 million for local projects. To be qualified for the funding, applicants need to be units of government or non-profit organizations. Any projects funded must be open to the public. Any fund that is given will require a project match of 20 percent. Matches to the project can include land value, monetary contributions and donated materials and labor.
