INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller has awarded a grant paying for first responders around the state to be trained to use the life-saving overdose medication naloxone.

Zoeller, who is running for Congress, announced Thursday that three nonprofits had been selected for the $127,000 grant, which will help them train and equip police and aid workers in areas that have the most need. 

Zoeller says the Overdose Lifeline, Indiana Naloxone Project and the Health and Hospital Corp. of Marion County are the chosen nonprofits. 

Naloxone is a fast-acting medication that can stop an overdose of opioids including heroin and painkillers.
