UPDATE: Jeffersonville Police Doing Welfare Check, Find Body

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Police in southern Indiana have opened a homicide investigation after officers conducting a welfare check discovered a person's body.

Jeffersonville Police Detective Todd Hollis says the gender of the body hasn't been determined. He says a man answering the door at the home has been taken into custody as a person of interest.

Hollis says officers went to the home Thursday morning after a caller requested a welfare check at the residence.

Neighbors tell WLKY-TV that a woman lived in the home with the man taken into custody.

Jeffersonville is across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky.
