Prosecutor: Officers “Justified” in Shooting

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WOWO): No charges will be filed against two police officers that opened fire on a suspect in front of a hospital in Huntington last month.

The Huntington County Prosecutor says officer Skyler Beard and Captain Thomas Emely were justified when they opened fire at 34-year-old Raul Martinez III on December 18th, 2015. That's the night he shot an 18-year-old woman more than once in the legs, then tried to sexually assault her, before getting into a confrontation with police in front of Parkview Huntington Hospital. When he and police exchanged gunfire, they managed to shoot him in the hip before Martinez fatally shot himself in the head.

The Journal Gazette reports that his victim has since recovered.
