Alcoa to Build Plant for Jet Engine Parts in La Porte

DALLAS (AP) _ Alcoa hopes to cash in on the boom in commercial aircraft orders by building a new plant in Indiana that will make engine parts for airliners.

Company officials announced Thursday that they will build a $100 million plant in La Porte.

It's due to be completed late next year and eventually create 329 jobs.

The plant is part of Alcoa's strategy to downplay its roots as an aluminum mining and smelting company and shift to producing finished aluminum products for aerospace, autos and other industries.
