Amazon Plans More Hiring at Southern Indiana Facility

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Officials with Amazon.com say worldwide customer demand is why the company has tripled its projected number of employees hired at a facility in southern Indiana.

Amazon spokeswoman Nina Lindsey says the online commerce company originally thought in 2012 that it would hire up to 1,050 employees at its Jefferson location. The News and Tribune reports that number is now more than 3,000 workers.

Amazon announced at the beginning of last month that it was hiring 500 new positions for the Jeffersonville location. Those workers pick, pack and ship customer orders. The jobs pay $12 an hour and include benefits.

Jeffersonville is on the Ohio River just across the Kentucky border from Louisville.
