Anderson Considers Ways to Attract Millennials to Downtown

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP):  City leaders in Anderson say they're looking for ways to attract young professionals to its downtown.

Levi Rinker of the Anderson Economic Development Department tells The Herald-Bulletin (http://bit.ly/1TzEjSg ) that the city would benefit from permanent businesses downtown, like a brewery, unique shops and restaurants.

Anderson already has downtown events like food truck evenings and Anderson Brewfest. Rinker says the festivals create culture and identity for the city.

One city that appears to have attracted millennials is Muncie. About a decade ago it started a downtown redevelopment effort and two years ago started a “DWNTWN The Original Muncie.” Muncie Downtown Development executive director Vicki Veach says 30 new businesses have moved to downtown Muncie since the campaign launched in 2013.
