Army base locked down on reports of active shooter

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WOWO): UPDATE: Lockdown has now been lifted. No injuries or arrests have been reported.

EARLIER: An Alabama military post is on lockdown amid reports of a possible active shooter.

Fox News reports an email was sent out to employees at the Redstone Arsenal calling it “a real world event, which is not part of the exercise.” The facility was reportedly holding active shooter drills this week.

The Army Contracting Command tweeted that the possible active shooter was not at its headquarters. No injuries have been reported.

More than 30,000 government employees, civilians and contractors work daily at Redstone, which adjoins the city of Huntsville. The Associated Press reports it is home to Army missile defense programs and other military offices.
