Board of Public Safety Determines Fate of Fort Wayne Police Officer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne Police Officer was put on paid leave after he was charged with theft. Today, he will find out if he will remain on paid leave.

Officer Barry Roos was charged Monday with stealing money from nonprofit organizations that are affiliated with his law-enforcement motorcycle group. The group is called the Blue Knights Indiana II, and consists of active and retired law enforcement. The Board of Public Safety will vote today if Roos should be dismissed on unpaid leave.

According to the Journal Gazette, Roos has been with the Fort Wayne Police Department for almost 17 years. He is accused of stealing several hundred dollars from the group who raises money for charities such as Make-A-Wish and D.A.R.E.
