ADA, Ohio — A bomb threat prompted a full campus evacuation at Ohio Northern University Tuesday afternoon, triggering a large law enforcement response and a building-by-building search.
University officials say the threat was reported shortly after 2 p.m., leading to an immediate decision to clear the campus out of an abundance of caution.
CAMPUS EVACUATED, SEARCH UNDERWAY
Students, faculty, and staff were quickly moved off campus as police began a systematic search of all university buildings.
Some individuals who could not leave the area were temporarily relocated to Ada High School, where they remained during the investigation.
“We received a bomb threat this afternoon, potentially affecting all of campus, so, out of abundance of caution, we did close and evacuate,” said Dave Kielmeyer, communications director at ONU.
He added that law enforcement worked to clear the campus building by building.
ALL-CLEAR ISSUED, CAMPUS TO REOPEN
Authorities issued an all-clear at approximately 5:41 p.m., indicating no credible threat was found.
Despite the clearance, officials say the campus will remain closed until 7 a.m. Wednesday as a precaution.
ONGOING RESPONSE
Law enforcement agencies have not released details about the source of the threat or whether any suspects have been identified.
Officials say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
