INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Craft breweries and wineries are pushing for repeal of a law banning alcohol sales at the Indiana State Fair.

An Indiana House committee heard testimony on the proposal Tuesday. The bill has passed the Senate, but still needs the House and the governor's approval.

Beer brewers say the fair is an opportunity to showcase Indiana-made craft beers.

State fair director Cindy Hoye says alcohol likely would be sold in an enclosed area open only to fairgoers 21 and older, but critics are skeptical about potential for underage drinking. The last alcohol-related offense reported during the fair was in 2007.

Legislators are also considering separate bills that would allow excused school absences for youths attending the fair to show animals or take part in other learning activities.
