Car crashes into Elkhart River Monday, killing father and two daughters

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – A father and his two daughters have died after crashing into the Elkhart River Monday.

Noble County police received a call around 10 a.m. reporting a vehicle had crashed into the river, near County Road 700 West and Ball Road, in Ligonier.

Our partners in news at ABC 21 report JJ Reyes, 50, was driving the car with his two daughters, Zulia Reyes, 15, and Valeria Reyes, 13.

Police report he approached a curve on the snowy road and lost control the vehicle. His white Toyota passenger car was found upside down and completely submerged in the river.

Police say it appears his speed was a factor in the crash.

Zulia Reyes was a sophomore student at West Noble High School and Valeria Reyes was an 8th grade student at West Noble Middle School.

The crash is still under investigation.
