Census Bureau Office Gets New Water Source

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP): Contractors for a southern Indiana water utility have finished switching over the water supply at a U.S. Census Bureau office that had been drawing its water from a contaminated well.

Crews working for Indiana American Water Co. recently completed switching the water supply from well water to modern water supply lines at the Census Bureau's National Processing Center.

The level of a chemical used in dry cleaning had spiked to 8 parts per billion in a July test of the Jeffersonville site.

National Processing Center Director David Hackbarth says all drinking fountains and ice machines will be cleaned prior to them being turned back on sometime in January. Water dispensers will remain at the office until the new water supply is shown to be safe.
