Snowfall Scarce In December

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): After a cold and snowy November, some Indiana cities are finishing out December with some of their smallest snowfall amounts in decades.

The last time South Bend had so little snowfall in December was 1912, when a mere half-inch of snow fell in the northern Indiana city. South Bend has had only a trace of snow this month.

National Weather Service meteorologist Nick Greenawalt says there's a couple chances of snow in South Bend before December ends, but both of those would bring little snow if any.

South Bend isn't alone in paltry December snows. Fort Wayne has had only 0.2 inches of snow, its smallest since 1943.

And Indianapolis has had only 0.1 inches of snow, its smallest December snowfall total since 1941.
