Indianapolis Police Shoot Man Crossing I-465

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Police say Indianapolis officers wounded a man suspected in an armed robbery as he ran across Interstate 465.

Police closed a section of I-465 near Indianapolis International Airport on the city's southwest side following the shooting about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

City police Lt. Christopher Bailey says the wounded man was taken to a hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Bailey says the man was a passenger in a car that officers spotted soon after the armed robbery of a nearby gas station. The car fled onto I-465, where an officer was able to end the chase by spinning the car out.

Bailey says the driver was apprehended quickly, while the passenger was holding a gun as he ran from the southbound lanes across the northbound lanes.
