Central Indiana Apartment Fire Kills Mother of 3

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana house fire has killed a 29-year-old mother of three.

Lebanon Fire Department spokesman Gabe Westerfeld says Leslie Hawkins of Lebanon died Thursday afternoon in a fire that investigators believe was caused by an auxiliary heating source. Investigators also said there were no smoke detectors in Hawkins' upstairs apartment.

Firefighters say Hawkins' three children were not home when the fire broke out shortly after noon.

<span style=”font-family: Arial; font-size: 18px;”>Boone County Sheriff's Department Cpl. Robert Hatfield said the fire occurred in an older house that has been divided into apartments.
