City crews respond to 10 water main breaks in 30 hours

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): City utilities crews have responded to 10 water main breaks in the past 30 hours.

Seven of those were yesterday during Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a city holiday. Crews responded to breaks at Gettysburg Pike, Vance Avenue at North Anthony Blvd., West State Blvd., Gay Street, Elmer Drive, Sundland at Oakleaf and W. Jefferson Blvd.

More breaks happened this morning on Camden Drive, Docksider Drive and West Superior Street.

Crews were working this morning on repairing the breaks at Gettysburg, Elmer, Sundland and West Jefferson. The other water main breaks from Monday have been repaired.

The break on West Jefferson will require additional work, with lane restrictions and ice control measures when necessary.

Last year, Fort Wayne had 318 water main breaks, mostly due to what city officials describe as aging water pipe infrastructure.
