City Ends Public Skating at Local Parks

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Safety concerns have the city ending open skating on ponds at city parks.

The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation department says it's just too difficult to safely monitor the ice thickness.

Parks Officials tell WOWO News, signs announcing that skating is prohibited will soon be posted.

Parks Director Al Moll says there have been issues in the past where ponds appear safe, but are not strong enough to support skaters.

He added, the parks department doesn't have the funding or resources to oversee the ponds at Lakeside, Swinney, Franke and Reservoir Park.
