INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell each scored 26 points, but the Indiana Fever could not overcome a late Atlanta surge in a 108-101 loss to the Dream on Thursday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The Fever (9-6) rallied from a double-digit second-half deficit and tied the game at 93-93 with 5:07 remaining after a 9-0 run capped by a Sophie Cunningham layup. Mitchell fueled the comeback by scoring the first seven points of the run, including the 700th three-pointer of her WNBA career, making her just the eighth player in league history to reach the milestone.
Aliyah Boston added 23 points and eight rebounds for Indiana, which had three players score at least 23 points.
Atlanta (10-4) responded after the Fever tied the game, taking advantage of a late Indiana turnover to regain the lead on a fast-break layup with just over two minutes remaining. Rhyne Howard then scored on consecutive possessions to help put the game away.
Clark, playing in her newly unveiled Nike signature shoe, finished 8-for-17 from the floor with two three-pointers. She picked up her fifth foul early in the fourth quarter and was limited down the stretch, returning with 3:28 left but unable to score in the final period.
Angel Reese led Atlanta with 21 points and 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season. Jordin Canada added 18 points, while Naz Hillmon and Allisha Gray each scored 17. Howard finished with 16 points as all five Dream starters scored in double figures.
The Fever and Dream will meet again Saturday in Atlanta.
