Contractors find Indy woman, 83, bound in basement…

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indianapolis police say contractors working on a home found an 83-year-old woman in the basement tied to a chair with duct tape across her mouth.

Lt. Chris Bailey says the woman was suffering from dehydration when found Monday and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Neighbors had last seen the woman on Saturday.

The woman told police one or more people had forced their way into her eastside home and robbed her, leaving her tied to the chair in the basement.

Police say that when contractors replacing siding on the home arrived Monday, they found the back door open and went about their work until they heard noises from the basement and went to investigate.

Police say several items were missing from the home.
