Day of Caring Happening On Thursday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Volunteers will be lending a helping hand at local area schools.

More than 200 people will clean, paint and spruce up landscaping at 10 Fort Wayne Community Schools on Thursday as part of the United Way of Allen County's annual Day of Caring.

Ten businesses and community groups signed up to work at schools throughout the city from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the start of school scheduled on August 11th.

The Day of Caring sites, along with the sponsor, include:

* Anthis Center, 1200 S. Barr St. – Hallmark Home Mortgage
* Bloomingdale Elementary, 1300 Orchard St. – Vera Bradley
* Bunche Montessori Early Childhood Center, 1111 Greene St. – Hylant Group
* Lindley Elementary, 2201 Ardmore Ave. – Steel Dynamics
* Maplewood Elementary, 2200 Maplewood Road – Wells Fargo Bank
* North Side High School, 475 E. State Blvd. – Park Center
* Price Elementary, 1901 W. State Blvd. – Fort Wayne Newspapers
* Shambaugh Elementary, 5320 Rebecca Drive – Fort Wayne Community Schools
* Study Elementary, 2414 Brooklyn Ave. – NIPSCO
* Whitney Young Early Childhood Center, 1026 E. Pontiac St. – Parker Hannifin

FWCS Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson said, “The day not only provides our schools with some needed pampering, it also serves as an example of the caring community we have in Fort Wayne.”
