Delaware County Cuts Polling Places from 70 to 50

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ Delaware County commissioners have approved reducing the number of polling places for the Nov. 4 general election, in part to save money.

The plan approved Monday cuts the number of polling places from 70 to 50 in the county. It doesn't affect its 77 precincts, only where persons living in those precincts cast their votes.

County Clerk Steve Craycraft told the commissioners that consolidating polling places could eliminate the need for as many as 100 of the county's 500 poll workers, saving $25,000.

Another consideration is the difficulty in securing locations. The Star Press reports the county about 40 miles northeast of Indianapolis has moved polling from some schools after the schools complained.

Craycraft says another concern is too many poll workers not showing up on Election Day.
