Dispose medication safely on “Unwanted Medication Disposal Day” in Allen County

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): If you’ve been flushing old pills down your toilet it could be contaminating your drinking water.

That’s why the Allen County is hosting “Unwanted Medication Disposal Day” on Earth Day, April 22, according to Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

Residents can bring expired medication in its original bottles or packages to these Walgreen’s locations so pills can be disposed properly:

  • 5830 N. Clinton Street
  •  6202 W. Jefferson Blvd.
  •  6730 Bluffton Road
  •  330 W. State Street
  • 907 Lincoln Highway West (New Haven)
  • 10170 Maysville Road
  • 1701 E. Paulding Road
  • 1610 W. Cook Road
  • 5435 E. Dupont Road
  •  10211 Chestnut Plaza Drive
  • 11932 Lima Road
  • 10412 Coldwater Road
  • 2410 N. Coliseum Blvd.
  • 6201 Stellhorn Road
  • 7950 W. Jefferson Blvd. (Lutheran Hospital)

There are also ongoing collection sites for pills only at these locations:

  • Indiana State Police Post, 5811 Ellison Road
  • Allen County Sheriff, Huntertown Town Hall
  • Fort Wayne Police, Edwin J. Rousseau Centre Lobby, One East Main St.
  • New Haven Police, 815 Lincoln Highway East
