Dozens Gather To Protest ICE Detention At Miami Correctional Facility

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) – Dozens of people gathered Saturday afternoon at the Allen County Courthouse as part of a statewide day of action calling for an end to ICE detention at the Miami Correctional Facility.

Organizers including Indivisible Northeast Indiana, Fuerza Unida and Plymouth Congregational Church say many detainees have no criminal convictions and report poor medical care inside the facility.

The protest follows the deaths this year of two ICE detainees housed at the prison.

21 Alive News says after the rally, demonstrators marched to the Allen County Jail, where organizers say immigrants are routinely picked up for detention and deportation.
