Earlham College Gets $1M Donation for Arts Center

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) _ Earlham College in eastern Indiana is getting a $1.1 million boost toward paying for construction of its new Center for the Visual and Performing Arts.

The private college in Richmond announced the donation from Paul and Pat Lingle and the Lingle Family Foundation during an event Sunday. Paul Lingle is a businessman whose Richmond companies include Lingle Real Estate and Bayberry Development Group.

Earlham President David Dawson says the center's recital and rehearsal hall will be named Lingle Music Hall. The Palladium-Item reports the $20 million arts facility is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014.

Dawson says the college especially appreciates the donation since the Lingles didn't attend Earlham.
