Elkhart Doctor’s Sexual Assault Trial Ends in Mistrial

ELKHART, IND. (WOWO) The trial of an Elkhart doctor accused of sexually assaulting a nursing home resident ended in a mistrial Monday, county officials confirmed.

Allegations against Hazim Ibrahim

Fifty-two-year-old Hazim Ibrahim is accused of assaulting a resident at Valley View Healthcare Center in August 2023. Prosecutors cited DNA evidence found on a pillowcase retained by the victim after the alleged incident.

Court documents indicate the victim filed a civil lawsuit directly against Ibrahim, not the nursing home. Officials have not clarified whether Ibrahim was employed by the facility at the time of the alleged assault according to WSBT.

Trial outcome and next steps

The trial ended in a mistrial after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. Ibrahim remains in custody while awaiting the next proceedings.

A new trial date has been scheduled for August 11, 2026. County authorities say preparations for the upcoming trial are ongoing.
