Evansville Zoo Dedicates Sculpture Honoring Donna The Hippo

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A longtime fixture at Evansville's Mesker Park Zoo is being memorialized in a new bronze sculpture that's part of a new children's play area.

The sculpture of Donna the hippopotamus was created by Louisville, Kentucky, artist Raymond Graf and was dedicated Thursday.

Zoo spokeswoman Abigail Adler tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/1CaTQ5S ) that Graf met with Donna's longtime keeper to get details about the hippo, including a scar on her cheek.

The sculpture portrays Donna in the water with one of her eight offspring on her back.

Donna spent more than 50 years at the zoo before her death in 2012.
