INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A prosecutor says a former central Indiana fire chief accusing of spending more than $58,000 in public funds on personal expenses has agreed to plead guilty to theft and official misconduct charges.
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said Thursday that former Fire Chief Mark Watson also has agreed to pay restitution to the Town of Speedway and to the State Board of Accounts for the costs of an audit.
A probable cause affidavit says Watson used the town funds while he was fire chief from June 2010 until his resignation last Oct. 27. Watson allegedly opened a credit union account without knowledge or authorization of town officials and deposited town funds into the account.
A guilty plea hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 28.
