Excise Police Arrest 176 During Race Weekend, Down From 2014

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana Excise Police say they arrested 176 minors and adults for mostly alcohol-related infractions at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway over race weekend. That's down about 17 percent from a year ago.

Excise officers issued 141 summonses for illegal possession or consumption of an alcoholic beverage from Friday to Sunday.  Other offenses included possession of false identification, resisting law enforcement, furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor, sale of alcoholic beverages without a permit, and drug-related charges.

Last year, excise officers arrested 211 people during race weekend.

Police in the town of Speedway report seven arrests Sunday in and around the track for public intoxication, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, battery, pointing a firearm and on a warrant from a previous infraction. Speedway police also made two arrests overnight Saturday.
