Family Seeks Justice 24 Years After Son’s Death

ANGOLA, Ind. (AP) _ The father of a northern Indiana man who was fatally stabbed in 1989 says he's never given up his quest for justice.

Now Vern Kelley hopes the arrest of Mahfuz Huq and his upcoming trial bring that.

Huq was arraigned Thursday in the Aug. 9, 1989, death of 19-year-old Todd Kelley.

Vern Kelley tells The Herald Republican he spent 10 years after his son's death searching for Huq, who had fled to Bangladesh. He hired private investigators, but the case grew cold until Indiana State Police Detective Kevin Smith tracked down Huq about five years ago.

Kelley credits Smith with cracking the case.

Huq's trial is scheduled for Dec. 9
