INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (WOWO) A Lima, Ohio woman is facing multiple federal charges after investigators say she used artificial intelligence-generated images as part of a blackmail scheme that allegedly extorted more than $80,000 from a family.

Federal court documents identify the suspect as 46-year-old Crystal Cisco according to WLIO.

Alleged extortion scheme detailed in court records

According to investigators, Cisco used her relationship with the family’s adult daughter to fabricate a story involving an alleged sex video. Authorities say she then threatened to release the supposed material unless the family paid money.

Court documents allege AI-generated images were also used to support the false claims made during the extortion scheme.

Officials say the family made initial payments before additional demands were issued, prompting them to contact the Allen County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

Sting operation leads to arrest

Investigators with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI say they coordinated a sting operation after the victims reported the alleged extortion.

Authorities say Cisco was captured on video and audio accepting what they described as “sham money” provided under law enforcement supervision.

Cisco was arrested by the FBI on May 4, 2026, according to a media release from the sheriff’s office.

Federal charges and investigation details

Court records indicate Cisco is charged with multiple federal offenses, including:

  • Wire fraud
  • Extortion
  • Receiving proceeds of extortion
  • Interstate communications with intent to extort
