INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (WOWO) A Lima, Ohio woman is facing multiple federal charges after investigators say she used artificial intelligence-generated images as part of a blackmail scheme that allegedly extorted more than $80,000 from a family.

Federal court documents identify the suspect as 46-year-old Crystal Cisco according to WLIO.

Alleged extortion scheme detailed in court records

According to investigators, Cisco used her relationship with the family’s adult daughter to fabricate a story involving an alleged sex video. Authorities say she then threatened to release the supposed material unless the family paid money.

Court documents allege AI-generated images were also used to support the false claims made during the extortion scheme.

Officials say the family made initial payments before additional demands were issued, prompting them to contact the Allen County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

Sting operation leads to arrest

Investigators with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI say they coordinated a sting operation after the victims reported the alleged extortion.

Authorities say Cisco was captured on video and audio accepting what they described as “sham money” provided under law enforcement supervision.

Cisco was arrested by the FBI on May 4, 2026, according to a media release from the sheriff’s office.

Federal charges and investigation details

Court records indicate Cisco is charged with multiple federal offenses, including:

  • Wire fraud
  • Extortion
  • Receiving proceeds of extortion
  • Interstate communications with intent to extort

Investigators also allege the scheme may have targeted elderly and vulnerable victims, though court proceedings are ongoing.

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information or who believes they may have been affected to contact the FBI’s Lima office at 419-223-7761 or 419-949-5050.

The Takeaway

Federal investigation centers on AI-enabled deception allegations

Authorities say the case involves the alleged use of artificial intelligence-generated images to fabricate a blackmail scenario that resulted in financial payments from victims.

Sting operation led to arrest and seizure of evidence

The FBI and Allen County Sheriff’s Office say a coordinated sting operation was used to document the suspect allegedly accepting funds tied to the extortion scheme.

Charges include wire fraud and interstate extortion allegations

Federal prosecutors have charged the suspect with multiple offenses, and investigators say the case remains active as they seek additional information and potential victims.

Caboose : “A. I.” … “What’s the ‘A’ stand for?”
Church : “Artificial”
Caboose : … “What’s the ‘I’ ..”
Church : “Intelligence”
Caboose : “OOoohhh” … “What’s the ‘A’ stand for again?”
Church : “Let’s move on.”

Not going to lie… I always thought that A. I. was just a bunch of algorithmic paths that calculate mathematical probabilities when reaching a targetable outcome.
…Sorta like those TSR books, when i was just a lad, ‘An Endless Quest’. <– to be honest, i still find these to be more entertaining than A. I., however image creation is enticing.

BUT THIS! THIS is Next Level Thinking! … and yet i am surprised that it didn't grill her, though? Maybe it did?

I was slightly embarrassed the last time i used Copilot to help me create an image.
"Copilot, let's create an image! I'd like this image to be Photo Realistic, set in a Suburban Residential area. Let's not involve the HOA in this one. Instead, let's just have average 30 year mortgages, on couples making $270,000 to $190,000 annually, as auditors. I would like this setting to have trees in the background, and sprinkled in the foreground, though you can barely see them as night has just settled in. Concentrate your view to 1 to 4 houses, centring on one house in particular. Instead of focusing on the house, keep clarity towards an effigy of three letters , set afire! Burning in their front yard are the letters " * * * ". Generate that, if you will."

While the imagery was exquisite… before it would generate ANYTHING, i had to cleverly weave a tale about the significance of the meaning.
It wasn't an easy feat, either. Fibbing about the Protection of Real-estate Investments.. 😳

Copilot wasn't just going to blindly follow me in, on this one! I was rather impressed, because he used to ..

…maybe the little guy IS learning!
