Fentanyl increasingly becoming problem in Allen County

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The same drug that killed pop star Prince is part of a growing trend of heroin overdoses in Allen County.

Gerri Lerch of the Allen County Drug and Alcohol Consortium tells our Partners in News at 21Alive that Fentanyl, the same drug Prince overdosed on back in April, has been related to heroin overdoses reported in Fort Wayne.

It only takes two grains of the drug to kill an adult, and Lerch says it’s somehow gotten into the hands of area drug dealers, who are lacing heroin with it to increase its potency.

She blames Fentanyl for around half of the county’s heroin overdoses.
