Former Deputies Face Synthetic Drug Charges

DANVILLE, Ind. (AP) – A husband and wife previously fired as deputies with a central Indiana sheriff's department over alleged mishandling of funds now face two misdemeanor counts each of possession of a synthetic drug.

State police say 41-year-old Jason Woods and 34-year-old Teresa Woods were booked Thursday into the Boone County Jail. A message seeking comment was left Thursday for their attorney, John Kautzman.

State police say the couple was arrested after police found more than $80,000 and more than 100 grams of synthetic drugs in a safe they owned.

They were fired in May after a friend said he gave Jason Woods $250,000 to keep in a safe and said he never got it back. A merit board fired them for conduct unbecoming an officer and failing to report a crime.
