WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ The ashes of former Purdue University first lady Jane Beering have been interred at the top of Slayter Hill.

Her family was joined by school staff, former trustees and other retirees at a private ceremony Monday morning. Her husband, Steven Beering, served as Purdue's president from 1983 to 2000.
