Former Purdue University First Lady Buried on Campus

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ The ashes of former Purdue University first lady Jane Beering have been interred at the top of Slayter Hill.
 
Her family was joined by school staff, former trustees and other retirees at a private ceremony Monday morning. Her husband, Steven Beering, served as Purdue's president from 1983 to 2000.
 
The (Lafayette) Journal and Courier reports that Jane Beering is the first person interred on campus in 72 years and one of only three whose final resting places are at Purdue. Founder John Purdue and trustee David Ross also are buried on campus.
 
Jane Beering died March 9 at age 81.
