FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A man who led Fort Wayne police on a foot chase that preceded an officer’s death has pleaded guilty to resisting police and other charges.

Forty-nine-year-old Patrick A. Faiers will serve three years in prison under his plea agreement. He pleaded guilty Friday to felony burglary, resisting police and driving after a lifetime suspension of his license.

The Journal Gazette reports that 50-year-old Officer David A. Tinsley helped chase Faiers down Sept. 10 after the suspect crashed a vehicle that was reported stolen.

Tinsley, his police dog and an officer in training searched on foot before Faiers was arrested in a wooded area.

Tinsley collapsed after Faiers was captured. He died later at a hospital.

An autopsy found that the 16-year Fort Wayne police veteran had died of cardiovascular disease.
