Fort Wayne’s Phone Number Compromised in IRS Call Scam

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Better Businesses Bureau of Northeastern Indiana is warning Hoosiers in Northern Indiana about some automated phone calls from someone pretending to be with the IRS.

The message will state that your guilty of income tax evasion, and in order to avoid being arrested and/or imprisoned, you'll need to call a different number.

One couple called in and indicated that the phone number on their caller ID showed 260-427-5822, which is the City of Fort Wayne's number. However, according to BBB, they have nothing to do with the call.

Should you receive one of these calls, hang up.  Do not call any phone numbers provided.  The intent of the call operator is to trick you into giving money, in exchange for not having you arrested or imprisoned.
