Four Year Old Injured In Lake County Crash

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Over the weekend, Indiana State Police responded to a vehicle crash on I-80, which injured a 4-year-old boy from Gary.

According to police, 23-year-old Dale Pompy was driving a minivan eastbound on I-80 near the 7.4 mile marker. For an unknown reason, the minivan traveled off the south side of the interstate. The van then re-entered the roadway, turned sideways, and rolled twice before coming to a stop on its roof.

4-year-old Jordan Pompy, a passenger in the van, was not properly restrained. According to police, the boy allegedly made contact with the road during the crash.

Jordan was airlifted to UIC Comer Children’s Hospital, in Chicago. He suffered a head injury along with abrasions and lacerations to his body. Dale Pompy sustained minor cuts in the crash and was issued citations for a child restraint violation and for driving with a suspended license.

This is an ongoing investigation.
