Gary Airshow to Feature Military Flight, Parachute Teams

GARY, Ind. (AP) – The Gary Airshow is returning to that city after a two-year hiatus with two new headliners.

The (Munster) Times reports (http://bit.ly/1CuAVBJ ) the Air Force Thunderbirds precision flight team and the Army Golden Knights parachute team will swoop down along the shores of Lake Michigan for the event on July 11-12 at Marquette Park.

Federal budget cuts in 2013 caused the military units to pull out of air shows like the one in Gary and rain last year washed out the show after it was moved to Fair Oaks Farms in nearby Jasper County.

The show previously lost thousands of dollars each year. Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson says she's looking at partnerships, sponsors, and parking fees to make the show more financially viable.
