Governor Pence Asks State Centers in Indy to Honor Jacobs

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Gov. Mike Pence has ordered state buildings in Marion County to lower their flags to half-staff in honor of former U.S. Rep. Andrew Jacobs Jr., who died Saturday at age 81.

The governor's order requests that the flags be flown at half-staff from morning to sunset on Friday, the day of Jacobs' funeral. The late congressman's funeral will include services at the Indiana Statehouse's Rotunda.

Pence is also asking Indianapolis businesses and residents to lower their flags to honor Jacobs.

He represented Indianapolis in Congress from 1965-73 and from 1975-1997 and was instrumental in writing the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
