Health Overhaul Supporters Hope Confusion Ends

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Three years after the federal health overhaul was signed into law and two weeks after the federal exchange opened, public confusion is still a broad concern.

Supporters of the federal health care law say they have spent months now trying to change the language they use.  Wonky terms like “exchange” – where consumers can examine their insurance options – are being replaced with terms like insurance “marketplace.”

But they face an uphill battle after years of bewilderment over the law. Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel has even poked fun at the widespread misunderstanding that “Obamacare” is different from the “Affordable Care Act.”

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis expert Heather McCabe says simply having an exchange open already is helping to lift that fog of confusion.
