Henry County Man Surrenders 21 Horses After Animal Deaths

MIDDLETOWN, Ind. (AP): Authorities say a north Henry County man has surrendered 21 horses, a dog and five puppies after the deaths of four horses on his property.

Henry County Sheriff Ric McCorkle tells The Star Press that volunteers Thursday took the animals to the Henry County Saddle Club.

He says an investigation started Monday when a passerby saw what looked like a dead horse under a tarp. The sheriff says that horse died about two weeks ago while birthing a foal.

McCorkle says one horse was about 150 pounds underweight and all the horses “weren't being fed right.'' He says the hay available wasn't quality to provide nutrition.

The sheriff says reports on the case have been forwarded to the Henry County prosecutor, who would decide if charges would be filed.
