High Winds Cause Morning Havoc

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The strong winds that blew into the area overnight and early this morning have caused some mild chaos.

As many as 1200 Indiana Michigan Power customers in Allen County, including some in Fort Wayne, were left without power, according to the utility's outage map… authorities in Noble County reported power outages and downed trees throughout the area, and a number of roads in LaGrange County were blocked off due to large trees blown down across the roadways. 

The worst damage seems to be to the northwest of Fort Wayne, in and around South Bend.

We'll update this story as details emerge. 

 

UPDATE at 7:10am, 11/12/15: Two reports of downed trees causing traffic delays in Fort Wayne: one on East State near Northside, the other on Treer near Lahmeyer. Police are directing traffic. 


UPDATE at 8:10am, 11/12/15: 280 customers now listed without power in DeKalb County… Indiana Michigan Power is anticipating power being restored to Allen County customers by 10:30am. 


UPDATE at 9:23am, 11/12/15: About 500 customers remaining without power in Fort Wayne-New Haven area (major outage of about 600 in SE Fort Wayne now restored); about 600 out in Garrett area (estimated time of restoration there is noon); about 300 out in area of Saint Joe (SE DeKalb County)


UPDATE at 10:55am, 11/12/15: About 913 customers are without power in DeKalb County, with about 500 in Allen County still without power.
