I&M Warns Customers of Scam Targeting Them

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): There's another scam going around that you need to be aware of.

Indiana Michigan Power is warning its customers that there is a scam going around that is targeting them.

I&M customers are called by people posing as I&M personnel and are being threatened to have their electric service disconnected if they don't buy a debit card, load the card with money, and then call an 800 number to give them the card number.

I&M says they will never demand immediate payment over their phone and that customers are warned via written notice if they're under threat of disconnection.

If you receive a call like this, hang up and call I&M's Customer Operations Center at 800-311-4634  as well as your local police.
