Indiana Beach leader memorized in Friday Funeral


MONTICELLO, Ind. (WOWO): The man who led Indiana Beach for more than 50 years was laid to rest Friday in White County.

Thomas Spackman remembered in memorial services as an innovator with attention to detail. Thomas Earl Spackman died earlier this week. He was 100.

According to the Lafayette Courier-Journal, Spackman's father Earl started the property in 1926 as Ideal Beach. Spackman took the helm of the resort in 1945 and changed the name to Indiana Beach in 1952. The Spackman family sold the park at Lake Shafer in 2008.
