Indiana Boy, 13, Fatally Shot by 10-Year-Old Relative

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) _ Police investigating the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old central Indiana boy say he was accidentally shot by a 10-year-old relative who found the gun in a family safe.

Anderson Police Department spokesman Officer Joel Sandefur tells The Indianapolis Star that a 10-year-old boy believed motivated by curiosity found the key to the gun safe, unlocked it and grabbed the gun Monday.

Sandefur says the boy cocked the revolver and pointed it at Logan Anthony Armendariz, believing it was unloaded.

But he says that there was one bullet left in the firing chamber and the gun discharged, fatally wounding Armendariz in the chest.

Sandefur says the shooting remains under investigation, but police don't believe the young relative shot Logan intentionally.
