Indiana Conservation Officers Emphasize Winter Safety

STATEWIDE, Ind. (WOWO) — Every winter – thousands of Hoosiers enjoy fishing, skating or playing around on the ice – and every year people drown from falling through.

Indiana Conservation Officers remind everyone – that it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Some things to remember… Assume that no ice is safe and test the thickness with an ice auger. A minimum of 4 inches is needed for ice fishing, 5 inches for snowmobiling – never test ice thickness alone. And above all else if you’re just not sure, don’t go on the ice.
