INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana Republicans are expected to win up and down the ballot this election, but their efforts to deepen the state’s red hue could fall short of the sweeping victories they racked up in 2010.

One big exception could be the U.S. Senate battle. A recent poll has Democrat Joe Donnelly leading Republican Richard Mourdock after the latter’s comments that a pregnancy resulting from rape is “something God intended.”

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is expected to put Indiana back in the Republican column four years after Barack Obama won the state. Mike Pence is expected to extend the GOP’s hold on the governor’s office another four years.

Party Chairman Eric Holcomb says he isn’t counting the wins before the polls close but is optimistic.
